Currently streaming on MX Player, I’mMature is from the pen of Sameer Saxena, the creator of such web shows as Permanent Roommates and Tripling for The Viral Fever (TVF). The five-episode show is a romantic, coming-of-age comedy that hinges on a school-going, teenage boy’s crush on his school mate.

Dhruv Sharma (Omkar Kulkarni) is nuts about Chhavi (Rashmi Agdekar). He tries to woo her with a little help from his friends Kabir (Chinmay Chandraunshuh), a wannabe bad boy, and the idiotic Susu (Visshesh Tiwari). Along the way, they have the sort of adventures every school kid has, such as drinking for the first time.

I’mMature is a sweet show with an adorable and talented young cast and a nostalgic, humour-flecked story. It’s crisply written with believable situations. Some of the scenes in which they cheat during exams and consume alcohol for the first time will give most viewers flashbacks.

There’s something old school about Dhruv’s romance, and the comic antics of Kabir and Susu, who try their best to be wingmen. Omkar Kulkarni does a competent job at playing the guy-next-door. But it’s Chinmay Chandraunshuh and Visshesh Tiwari who stand out as Kabir and Susu. Rashmi Agdekar is charming as Chhavi. She’s smart, studious and well aware of the interest boys have in her. Unlike similar teen dramas, in which girls are shown to be giddy characters, I’mMature offers up a strong female lead. Aside from the writers, the production team deserves full props for creating a realistic school set-up.

I’mMature is a quick, feel-good watch guaranteed to send you down memory lane. You’re likely to be smiling to yourself, thinking about your first crush long after you finish watching the season.
