Just like your stomach, your heart and mind also need something sweet to escape from the arduous journey we call life. What everyone needs is two hours of Golkeri, an adaption of Marathi movie Muramba, which will transport you to a different and simpler place. Harshita (Manasi Parekh) is an up-and-coming stand-up comedian who has just had her first solo show. The tail-end of her set is focused on jokes around boyfriend-bashing, much to the amusement of the audience. Once the show ends, we can see a man walking out in a huff and Harshita follows him. He is later revealed to be her boyfriend and following an argument, they break up. The story goes back two years, when Harshita is probably performing for the first time and the audience is not amused at all. After her set, SaMoSu aka Sahil Mohanbhai Sutaria (Malhar Thakar) walks up to her and asks her to gargle to quench her anger. From there, their love story begins.

A Lot Can Happen In A Day

There are constant flashbacks that take us through the journey of Harshita and Sahil’s relationship whereas the present focuses on the immediate aftermath of their breakup. Their backstories include moments when the couple met Sahil’s parents MoSu aka Mohanbhai Sutaria (Sachin Khedeker) and JoySu aka Jyotsana Sutaria (Vandana Pathak), when they got engaged, and even the time when trouble first started brewing. In the present day, Sahil has trouble trying to explain to his parents why he has broken up with Harshita and the parents are trying their best to bring them together.

JyoSu and MoSu are #CoupleGoals and #ParentGoals

While Sahil and Harshita was the main couple, we cannot take our eyes off JyoSu and MoSu every time they are on screen. Vandana Pathak and Sachin Khedekar are both amazing actors and they bring all the sweetness to the story. You can’t help but smile when you see them interacting with each other. We wouldn’t mind watching a movie showing us a day in their lives. The movie also explores the relationship that baby boomer parents share with their children and the wall of technology and lingo that separates the two generations. The parents here are really trying to be there for their kids, right from supporting their child to be a comedian to letting them know that it doesn’t matter what they do but they should do it with all their heart.

The sweetness overweighs the funny

The movie has its laughs when themes like Jodha Akbar, Game of Thrones (with the title track), and Avengers (with Wonder Woman) are brought up. But there are more moments that just keep a sappy smile plastered on your face, like the time MoSu is encouraging Jyosu to ride his scooter. The movie is filled with moments like these that invoke a fuzzy feeling in your heart.

The movie has English subtitles so you don’t have to know the language to enjoy the film. If you are looking for something sweet to watch that makes you feel good on the inside, this is the movie for you. The story doesn’t deviate a lot from the original but the performances are what make it stand out.
