Imtiaz Ali is known for new age romance stories that explore the dynamics between a couple who go through several trials before finding happiness with each other. She, the Indian original Ali has written and created, seems like a departure from his usual themes.

The trailer for the Netflix original focuses on Bhumika Pardesai (Aaditi Pohankar), a senior constable who convinces her superiors to let her go on an undercover mission to bust a narcotics gang. Pardesai is shown as diffident, uncomfortable in her own skin and sexuality. Yet she’s eager to prove herself. Her target is Sasya, a narcotics dealer, who falls into the trap laid for him. He tells the cops he will confess, but only to Pardesai.

From the preparation of the mission to the actual trap being set to the team and Pardesai being besieged by doubts, the show looks like a fast-paced thriller that is not only about catching criminals. It’s also a journey of self-discovery, a trope Ali often uses in his cinema.
