Three years ago, one of North America’s largest film production and distribution studios Lionsgate Films made its entry into the Indian market. It was one of the first companies to bring in its OTT video streaming service Lionsgate Play to the country. The platform was launched in partnership with Airtel, Vodafone, and Idea, so users could access their content via Airtel XStream, Vodafone Play, and Idea TV.

Soon, Lionsgate Play will be an independent platform for users to access to one of the most high-profile Hollywood libraries that boasts of the biggest titles. Here are some of the movies you can access through Lionsgate Play.

The Hunger Games series

This sci-fi series of four films is set in the dystopian country of Panem that consists of the wealthy Capitol and 13 poverty-ridden districts. Children from the first 12 districts are selected every year to participate in a televised death match until the young Katniss Everdeen decides to put an end to the madness.

The Twilight Saga

Based on the books by Stephenie Meyer, the five films in this series follow the romance of a young teenage girl Bella with her century-old vampire boyfriend Edward. Their journey goes from battling vampires to fighting werewolves until Bella is forced to become a vampire as well.

The Divergent trilogy

Based on the novels by Veronica Roth, this post-apocalyptic sci-fi series is set in a dystopian society that divides its citizens by their social and personality-related factions while anyone exercising independent will is removed. Beatrice Prior must figure out her life as a Divergent, while concealing her true nature from the leaders.

The Now You See Me series

One of the best heist thriller series, Now You See Me revolves around the actions of a team of illusionists named ‘The Horsemen’ who succeed in pulling off near-impossible heists. A third film is in the works while the first and second are available to stream.

La La Land

What was almost the Best Picture winner at the 89th Academy Awards, this musical romantic comedy revolves around a jazz pianist and an aspiring actress, who meet and fall in love while pursuing their dreams in Los Angeles.

Knives Out

One of the best modern whodunits that was also nominated for the Best Original Screenplay at the 92nd Academy Awards, this mystery film follows the gathering of a wealthy family that goes rather awry as the patriarch is found dead, leading to a massive investigation by a master detective.


A comedy-drama that is based on the novel by R. J. Palacio, this film follows a boy with Treacher Collins syndrome who is trying to fit in at his new school. It received positive reviews and was even nominated for Best Makeup and Hairstyling at the 90th Academy Awards.

The Spy Who Dumped Me

This spy thriller and black comedy film follows two best friends who end up in Europe after one of their ex-boyfriends turns out to be a CIA agent. The girls are then chased by assassins through the continent as they head out in search of the truth.

Apart from the movies mentioned above, Lionsgate Play’s collection also includes classics like Robin Hood, Gods of Egypt, Letters To Juliet, and Reservoir Dogs. Currently, their biggest competitors in the market are the streaming giants Netflix and Amazon Prime Video while MX Player is also popular in the Indian markets for its dubbed Hollywood films. However, OTT streaming services have made the most of the current pandemic and are booming with new subscribers each day.
