Tamasha Music Celebration: An Evening of Surprises!

There is no better way to spend a Saturday night than with Deepika Padukone. And when that evening also involves the music of Tamasha, you know it’s going to be an evening worth writing about.

Last night, Deepika invited all members of the press to celebrate the music of Tamasha. Nobody knew exactly what to expect from the evening as three of the tracks had already been launched, as had the trailer. Would they unveil a new track? What was the ‘surprise’ planned for the press? Would Ranbir Kapoor be coming as well?

Of course, all such speculation flew out of everyone’s minds the minute Deepika walked in. It has been many years but she still has that ‘Ankhon mein teri ajab si, ajab si adaayein hain effect on people. She looked every bit a style goddess in her heavily embroidered top-meets-coat, paired with torn denims, and burgundy pink stilettos.

Despite being conspicuously alone on stage, she started a discussion, unfazed, about the soundtrack of Tamasha, asking people to guess which her favourite song was. The correct guess was promised a chance to dance with her on stage (and she did oblige later!). Would you like to guess? It was ‘Agar tum saath ho’, a melodious though intensely emotional song.

Then the surprise was unveiled- Ranbir joined the celebration through Skype! And he immediately injected a humorous note into the proceedings by revealing that he wanted to pee very badly during the shooting of this song! He even sang a bit of the trendy song in the album- ‘Heer toh badi sad hai’- though not very well, as he admitted. It’s a song with which “You can’t stop yourself from moving,” he said, and we agree. (Aside: The song was partly shot at Flury’s in Kolkata. If you haven’t been to this age-old bakery, now there is another reason to!)

The surprises continued with Karan Johar putting in an appearance with Ranbir. He stayed just long enough to make a few jokes and make us wish for more. The best one was aimed at Deepika: “Is your Jawaani Deewani or is your Bajirao Mastani?” No points for guessing the intent behind this one! The one at Siddharth Roy Kapur (the other SRK), suggesting he’ll get a bill for this appearance, got SRK himself to walk on stage. With Imtiaz Ali and Sajid Nadiadwala!

They all spoke more about the songs, especially ‘Matargashti’ which seems to be on everyone’s lips these days. The “Hakuna Matata feel” of the track apparently had all of Corsica on their feet while they were shooting it there. A few candid shots of people dancing have even been included in the video. And while Bosco & Caesar choreographed the song to seem natural, Ranbir got a mime artist to teach him the Dev Anand moves he emulates in the song.

Finally, a new music video was released- ‘Wat wat wat’– and it gives us more clues about what to expect from the story. Which Deepika and Imtiaz promise has a lot of emotion, romance and comedy, while staying real. Or as real as Bollywood films can get!

Check out this catchy, new track while you wait for the film to release. Just 26 days to go!
