Idol Worship: Temples to the Stars

We love watching our favorite stars perform stunts, dance and deliver punch dialogues in films. Our joy is doubled when the actor’s on-screen character defeats the antagonist and succeeds in his mission. Then we begin admiring the hero even more. But what if our fondness for the actor turns into something else? What happens when one begins admiring everything about the star to the extent that it leads to worshiping him or her? Some people are doing or have already done the unimaginable. They have built temples for their favorite stars! We’ve all heard about hero worship, and how fans perform the ‘paal-abhishekam‘ on a cut-out of their hero before the release of a film, however, building a temple is one step further. We bring you a list of celebs who have a temple built for them.

For someone who started his working life as a bus conductor, Rajinikanth has come a long way, as he is now one of the biggest superstars of the nation. The installation is said to have begun with special Vedic chants and prayers.
Khushboo is a well-known name in the South Indian film industry. She gained immense popularity in the 90s, so much so that her fans constructed a temple in her name. But things took a weird turn when she openly declared her views on premarital sex, after which protesters demolished the temple.
Namitha was once hailed as the sexy siren in Kollywood and Tollywood. Her popularity reached new heights when her fan club decided to build a temple in her name.
Hansika is currently one of the most popular stars in South cinema. Fans of the ‘bubbly baby’ have even constructed a temple in her name. Although not supported by the star, the temple is operational and is situated in Madurai
