The Best Action Scenes of 2015

2015 was a great year, especially for action movies. With big ticket releases like Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation and Spectre taking centre-stage, there were many more high-octane offerings that made their way into movie history. And boy, did they blow us away. Filmmakers have upped the ante, with bigger set-pieces, badder [sic] villains and bigger explosions. Since 2015 is coming to a close, why not take a moment and appreciate the biggest, and best action scenes from 2015? After all, there’s nothing better than guns, girls, villains and fast cars, eh?

Spectre – Day of the Dead

One of the most awaited films of 2015, Spectre, didn’t quite deliver that kick in the gut that Skyfall did. However, it did have a smashing opening sequence that left our jaws on the floor. What are we talking about? The Day of the Dead celebrations in New Mexico, where Bond casually strolls through the streets with a skull mask on. He then proceeds to single-handedly demolish an entire city block. Great plan!

Creed – The Last Round

A follow up to the massively successful Rocky franchise, Creed stepped it up in the ring. Taking off years after old Rocko’s prime, Creed saw the lovechild of Apollo Creed, Adonis, take up boxing as a career and win a name for himself in the ring. The best part of the film? The ending, with Adonis taking on World Champion “Pretty” Ricky Conlon in a boxing bout that will be talked about for quite some time.

Kingsman: The Secret Service – Church Massacre

Colin Firth from Kingsman: The Secret Service did everything right. He looked sharp in a suit, he dispatched baddies in bars with elan and single-handedly straight up murdered an entire crowd of mindless fiends in a church. That’s what makes a real man, kids.

Ant-Man: Ant-Man vs. Falcon

Ant-Man pretty much nailed most of its comic book shenanigans in the film adaptation. Not only that, but it added a fresh, and much welcome twist to proceedings as well. One such moment is when Ant-Man and Falcon butt heads at an Avenger’s facility. Now we know, size doesn’t matter when you’re delivering an ass-kicking.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. – Boat Scene

A fresh breath of air to the spy thriller genre, The Man From U.N.C.L.E was an excellent film. From start to finish, it kept things brisk, funny and engaging. What’s the best bit, you ask? When Henry Cavill’s character decides to indulge himself in a fine meal while his partner is chased around by boats. Hilarious, right?

Furious 7 – Escape from Etihad Towers

While most of Furious 7 was a fast blur, the bit where Paul Walker and Vin Diesel drive through one building and into another is something to remember. Although it may have seemed something Rajnikanth would do in his films, the sheer scale of the scene is definitely commendable.
