A very interesting analysis on the browser market share for users of BookMyShow. We have taken data for web browsers used over the last three years, and it looks like this:
Chrome has been the surprise package, and has gone from zero in 2008, to 21% share in 2010. It is very close to the 26% of Firefox which has seen slower growth. However, both have gained at the expense of Internet Explorer! Microsoft needs to figure out a way to stem the attrition, or they will soon be in the minority.
In the same period, market share of Windows has gone from 98% to 91%. So they are still the 800lb gorilla in that space, but the trend is negative here as well, albeit much slower.
We have not included mobile browsers in this analysis, will touch upon that another day as that has some more interesting insights.
P.S: Good point raised by Rajesh on a comparison with the browser share for all Indian internet users. As per the Economic Times, the most recent data says IE: 47%, Firefox: 30%, Chrome: 17%. So we are pretty much in the ballpark there!
