Hollywood has this incredible ability to produce a movie which comes our way like a breath of fresh air in the middle of all the CGI crap that has become synonymous with summer releases.
The Hangover is essentially the story of a bachelor party gone extremely extremely wrong AND it happens in Vegas. Now, you might think that this might be just like any other vegas movie, but trust you me, it is a league apart. Todd Phillips, who has previously directed The Road Trip, dons the director’s cap once again and manages to make a film that literally had me guffawing away most of the time. All you need to know about the movie is that four friends head out to Las Vegas to celebrate their friend’s (Justin Bratha) upcoming wedding. His best friends include Phil (Bradely Cooper) a school teacher who asks his students to bring money for a say trip and uses that for the Vegas trip and Stu (Ed Helms) a dentist who has an extremely annoying and overpowering girl friend, and his brother-in-law Alan (Zach Galifianakis).
There isn’t much that you would want to know about the story because frankly movies like these have no story so to speak, but the situations that these friends find themselves in are extremely funny and using gags I am sure you wouldn’t have seen before.
The cast is not what you would call A-List Hollywood and that is what works for this movie. They do not come with previous baggage and are refreshing to watch. Do watch out for Zach Galifianakis who plays a socially recluse and mentally unstable Alan. He provides some of the most funny moments in the movie. Watch him try really hard to take care of the baby they find in their hotel room the next day of the party. He makes him do things that one should not speak of.
Also, worth a mention is the Chinese gangster who talks trash but looks like the most non-menacing person you would ever come across. All in all it’s a movie that makes me want to have a bachelor’s party in Vegas.
This movie should not be missed. Do watch it with friends and you will enjoy it more.
