The south Indian film industry produces some amazing films every week. From content-based stories to films that boast of a huge star cast, the audience gets to enjoy it all. Some of them turn out to be hits while others fail to make a mark at the box office. Apart from all the buzz about film releases, the leading actors of the film are creating headlines. Be it for their personal lives or the candid remarks they make, these celebrities are always in the limelight. The attention grabbers, the achievers and the newsmakers – we share a list of significant developments that unfolded in June.
1. A Aa Hits the 2.5 Million Mark
The Samantha and Nithiin-starrer, A Aa has reportedly grossed over 2.5 million at the U. S box office. Released on 2nd June, the film opened to a positive response from audience and critics alike. Looks like director Trivikram has achieved success once again. This also marks Samantha‘s third hit this year after Theri and 24.
2. Gentleman’s Victory
It looks like ‘Natural’ star Nani is having a dream run. His first film in 2016, Krishna Gadi Veera Prema Gadha was declared a hit at the box office. Now, his second of the year is also receiving a superb response. Directed by Mohanakrishna Indraganti, this edge-of-the-seat thriller had the audience asking for more. Nani is not a ‘villain’, he is in fact the ‘hero’ who is setting cash registers ringing.
3. Niharika Konidela’s Debut
The pretty lady of Tollywood’s Mega family (Chiranjeevi’s family), made her big screen debut with Oka Manasu. A love story, Oka Manasu also starred Naga Shaurya in the lead. Prior to this, Niharika was a television anchor and also featured in a web series, which was produced by her production house, Pink Elephant Pictures.
4. Prakash Raj to Remake Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu
Directed by Hemanth M. Rao, Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu released on 3rd June, and was well-received by the audience for its theme. The film depicted the life of a person with Alzheimer’s disease, and also focused on the bond shared between parents and their children. Actor/director Prakash Raj was so impressed by the film that he took to his social media account to announce that he would be remaking the film in Tamil and Telugu. The film industry is always game for good cinema, and we can’t wait for this one to start rolling.
5. Vishal and Lingusamy Patch Up
It is a well known fact that Vishal and director Lingusamy had decided to call off their upcoming film, Sandakozhi 2, due to some differences. Now, it looks like the duo have buried the hatchet, and are all set to revive the project. The two also made the announcement on their social media pages respectively. The duo previously worked together for Sandakozhi which released in 2005.
6. Karthik Subbaraj Gets Warned
Director Karthik Subbaraj’s recent directorial venture Iraivi portrayed a producer in a negative light, and this didn’t go down too well with the producer’s council in Kollywood. According to a statement from them, the character (of a film producer) was based on the film producer who had produced Karthik Subbaraj’s previous project. The council has reportedly issued a Red Card on the director.
7. Nivin’s Signs Another Tamil Film
Mollywood sensation, Nivin Pauly is currently working on a Tamil film, which is directed by debutant director Gautham Ramachandran. Even before the release of that film, Nivin has signed his next big project. At the audio launch of Remo, Sivakarthikeyan announced that Nivin’s upcoming Tamil film will be scripted by R. D. Raja (the producer of Remo), and directed by debutant director Prabhu Radhakrishnan.
8. Kabali is Unstoppable
The audio of Rajinikanth’s much-hyped film Kabali was launched this month, and the film’s title track – Neruppu Da -has gone viral. In a first of sorts, the film will also be screened at Rex Cinemas, France which has a seating capacity of 2000. A leading airline company has also announced special flights from Bangalore to Chennai, so that fans don’t miss the first-day, first-show of the film.
9. Stars Descend at the Filmfare Awards (South)
Stars from the Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam film industries came together to attend the Filmfare Awards (South) to reward the artists and technicians of the South Indian film industries. Baahubali, Srimanthudu, and I were the big winners. While Vikram bagged the award for Best Actor for his performance in I, A. R. Rahman won the award for Best Music Director for the same film.
10. Simbu and Yuvan Shankar Raja Team Up
After collaborating on films like Vallavan and Manmadhan, music composer Yuvan Shakar Raja and Simbu are all set to work together for the upcoming film – Anbanavan Asaradhavan Adangadhavan. The director of the film, Adhik Ravichandran took to his social media page to announce that the film will have nine songs.
