The Possession: Movie Review

Most of the horror movies released in the past few years have made people laugh and snicker rather than scare them. This movie is different unlike the others. The Possession will bore you to death!

The story, which is based on a true event, revolves around a recently divorced couple – Clyde (played by Jeffery Dean Morgan), Stephanie (played by Kyra Sedgwick), their two kids – Em (played by Natasha Calis) and Hannah (played by Madison Davenport) and a certain box that Em picks up at a sale, the box that has a demon trapped inside of it. Things go awfully wrong when Em opens the box and gets possessed by the demon.

Post these incidents, its the usual horror movie drill. The low C note on the piano every now and then, Em going completely bonkers, the father going mad, while the mother blames the father and on and on! Apparently even the true “ghost/demon” encounters follow the same traits as those in the movies. There is nothing in the movie that would make you jump off your seat. There are a few creepy moments that’ll probably make most women in the audience want to go back home and call pest control and that’s probably about it. The movie is really slow. In fact it is so slow that if a snail were to watch this movie it would probably feel like Usain Bolt. There are bits and traces of The Exorcist in the movie. Nothing ground-breaking really.

The whole point of a horror movie is to scare people and make sure that people cant sleep at nights. This movie is guaranteed to make most of the audience sleep at the cinema itself. Even the visuals of the movie were dry and boring. It did get weird in some parts where a Jewish exorcist would shake his head and long hair and perform rituals (It looked more like he was head-banging to some old school metal music).

The music score was a let-down; too archaic, too cliché. The only stand out part of the movie was the acting. Natasha and Madison carried out their roles with ease and efficiency. Natasha in particular did a brilliant job!

Verdict: Guaranteed to give you 90 minutes of rest. Not worth a watch!
