A terribly boring 93 minutes. The Roommate is a film with no back story, no notable performances and no characterization. It just a bunch of popular Hollywood T.V stars getting paid to draw in the pre-teen audiences. The psycho girl scenes aren’t even close to being eerie, forget scary. I think this generation’s teens have seen it all, from the “Saw”s to the “Scream”s. There’s no excuse to throw such boring trash at them, in the name of thrills.
Rebecca (Leighton Meester aka Blair Waldorf of Gossip Girl) and Sara (Minka Kelly) share the same college and the same room. Some weird behavior, a belly ring ripping shower scene, an air dried kitty and a creepy hometown visit later Sara realizes that Rebecca is mentally troubled and happens to be obsessed with her. Big surprise there! But Sara decides to stay away from Rebecca only after she sees her dead sister’s name tattooed on Rebecca. How or why Rebecca becomes that way are things the makers didn’t bother with. The climax does nothing to better this sloppily written teen psycho drama. The rest of the semi-popular cast simply waltzes around unnoticed even in a supposedly gripping climax. Yes, it’s that kind of film. You get a bunch of known prime-time faces popular with the pre-teens; call it a psycho thriller and no one needs to bother with writing, direction or dialogue.
