Verdict: Karthi enthralls the audience with some serious conviction and brilliant acting.
Based on true events, the story unravels the most successful high profile case of the 90s of the Tamil Nadu police. Directed by the second-time movie maker of the Sathuranga fame, H. Vinoth delivers a captivating story and keeps the audience engaged during the course of the film.
The story follows a talented and honest police officer Theeran Thirumaran (Karthi) and his wife Priya Theeran (Rakul Preet Singh). Their lives revolve around a series of cold-blooded murders which link to a common gang of criminals. The film narrated by the protagonist is a glorified cop story and portrays a typical Kollywood action hero movie in many ways. The antagonist Om Singh a.k.a Oma (Abhimanyu Singh) plays the savage murderer and the leader of the gang and delivers a scary performance portraying his role with absolute perfection.
The film showcases true events with extensive research done by the director H.Vinoth, which adds to the storyline's experience. There are some brilliant stills and the film is shot in various locations in India giving a whole and complete experience of suspense and thrill. The art direction is commendable and takes the film to the next level and delivers a captivating experience. Karthi shines as the protagonist and brings an absolute conviction to his role with commendable acting skills.
WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER:
The film seems a bit prolonged as the duration is 2 hours 40 minutes. The film could have done without a few scenes.
