“Tere dil main meri saanson ko panhaa mil jaaye, tere ishq main meri jaan fanaa ho jaaye.”
It has been 10 years since we first heard that line, 10 years since we saw Zooni (Kajol) and Rehan (Aamir Khan) fall in love, 10 years since we fell in love with one of the greatest love stories on screen. A decade might seem like a long time but we feel it was not long ago that we waited with bated breath to see this couple create magic on screen with Fanaa. It seems like yesterday we were humming the tongue twister “Chanda Chamke”.
On this day today, 10 years ago, this movie released in theatre admist a lot of controversy. This movie isn’t only an epic love story but also one of the forerunners when it comes to narrating the plight when it came to falling in love with a terrorist. New York and Kurbaan, which were released much after Fanaa, also tried to explore this concept. Here are a few things you might want to know about this movie.
1. This was Kajol’s comeback movie
Kajol was on a five-year maternity leave from Bollywood before she made a comeback with this movie.
2. Kajol and Aamir had some rivalry going on
When the director Kunal Kohli sent the draft of the script to both the actors, he received revised scripts with some modifications. Both the actors had chosen to give more depth to their own character as compared to the other.
3.The film was shot in Poland
What you see as Kashmir, is actually shot in Poland because Kajol refused to shoot in Kashmir fearing terrorist attacks (yes, we see the irony).
4. It released in Brazil
Fanaa released in Brazil six years after its release in India and it also marked the debut of Aamir Khan in Brazil.
5.The little boy has grown up
Remember Zoomi and Rehan’s adorable son? Well, he is all grown up. You might have seen him in movies like Paathshaala and Ta Ra Rum Pum as a child actor. He was last seen in a short film titled Perception, which was directed and written by him.
6. It is Kajol and Aamir’s first movie as a reel couple
Shocking as it may sound, it is true. The only other movie the couple has worked in together is Ishq, but they were not cast opposite each other in the movie.
