Top 10 catches in the Indian T20 League

They’re the flying ninjas who bring in all the energy on the field and are constantly on their feet! They jump, they dive, they do whatever it takes to hold on to the ball. This year’s T20 League has seen some of the most extraordinary catches that will probably never be forgotten for years to come. Whether it’s a relay at the boundary or a stunner at backward point, there’s plenty for a Jonty Rhodes to be proud of! Not only have these catches looked outright appealing, but they have also helped teams get the momentum on their side. As they say, catches win matches. Some of these actually became the deciding factor in crucial games.

Here are the Top 10 stunners at this year’s T20 league:

1. Tim Southee and Karun Nair – RR vs KXIP

Everything about a relay catch is awesome! Tim Southee and Karun Nair pulled off what was probably the best relay catch of all times against the Kings XI Punjab in just the third match of the tournament. Must say, there couldn’t have been a better exhibition of teamwork than this one.

2. David Warner – SRH vs RCB

Sunrisers skipper David Warner has been leading the team from the front, not just with his explosive batting but also with his ace fielding. The acrobatic Warner plucked a superb one-handed diving catch out of nowhere to get rid of RCB’s Mandeep Singh.

3. Dwayne Bravo – CSK vs RR

His celebrations may be a bit over-the-top, but no cricketer comes close to the agility that Dwayne Bravo exhibits on the field. The all-rounder took a screamer at the boundary ropes to dismiss Shane Watson just when it looked like the ball was sailing over his head!

4. Lendl Simmons – MI vs DD

The West Indian has been changing Mumbai Indian’s fortunes ever since he joined the MI camp. Simmons took an absolute shocker to dismiss Delhi batsman Yuvraj Singh, flying high in the air and diving to his right. It wasn’t the only blinder he’d go on to pocket. Simmons took a couple of more catches in similar fashion – against CSK (Faf Du Plessis) and RCB (Chris Gayle) in the games that followed.

5. Naman Ojha – SRH vs RR

These are perhaps the most difficult catches, simply because you can’t see them coming. Wicketkeeper Naman Ojha dived to his extreme right and took a sensational catch that stayed ridiculously low coming off Sanju Samson’s bat.

6. Faf Du Plessis – RCB vs CSK

When you talk about great catches, there’s no way you cannot mention Faf Du Plessis! The South African is arguably CSK‘s best fielder when it comes to catches in the outfield. This one was no different. Running backwards in a jiffy, Faf took a spectacular one-hand catch to dismiss Manvinder Bisla. Fafulous!

7. Dinesh Karthik – RCB vs RR

Another caught behind that caught everyone’s attention! Dinesh Karthik dived to his full left and grabbed one of the most difficult catches whilst staying in the air for a couple of seconds. James Faulkner tried to innovate with his shot-making but the ball couldn’t go past a quick Karthik!

8. Ryan Ten Doeschate – KKR vs CSK

You can’t get rid of Dwayne Smith on the first ball he faces unless you pull off something magnificent! Ryan Ten Doeschate’s reaction time wouldn’t have been more than a second when he plucked this blinder out of thin air to send Smith packing.

9. JP Duminy – DD vs MI

The ball was sky-high for a long time before it reached JP Duminy’s safe pair of hands, but the DD skipper’s judgement was spot on as he pouched it to perfection. Left or right? He got it all right!

10. Sandeep Sharma – KXIP vs DD

Fielding was probably the only saving grace for Kings XI Punjab, who finished last on the points table this year. Medium pacer Sandeep Sharma dived in front to take an outstanding catch to dismiss Yuvraj Singh of the Delhi Daredevils.
