While 2016 has been terrible for most of us, some others have had a pretty good year. Salman Khan’s Sultan was a big hit among his fans, while down South, Mohanlal has had a good year with five releases. Rajini outshone them all with his biggest hit yet – Kabali. While fans of these superstars are gloating with the massive success of their idols, some smaller movies like Nil Battey Sannata, Dear Zindagi, and Parched have also made quite an impact among its smaller but smarter audience. Overall, we can say that it has been a good year for Bollywood.
As for fashion, Indian superstars have caused quite a stir with their bold style statements. People could not get enough of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s purple lips at Cannes, and Ranveer Singh turned heads every time the media got a glimpse of him. Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone, on the other hand, dazzled on the Red Carpet globally.
Take a look at our pick of the best of 2016:
Film of the Year – NATSAMRAT
Dangal, Sultan, Kabali, and Udta Punjab were blockbusters this year, while Sairat was the fitst Marathi film to enter the 100-crore club. But the film that sweeped its audience was Natsamrat. Starring Nana Patekar, this film has managed to win a 93% rating on our site, more than Dangal’s 92%.
Trailer of the Year – DANGAL
Dangal’s trailer garnered a massive 43,071,272 views on YouTube. Even Raees has not managed to catch up with them yet. Needless to say, it was the most impressive trailer of the year and it definitely has our vote for the Best Trailer of 2016. If you haven't seen it already, watch the trailer here:
Best Fanbase – RAJINIKANTH
Sorry Bhailevers, but when it comes to fan following, you cannot get as crazy as the Thalaivians. Please don’t see this as a competition and get any weirder, though. Kabali threw Rajini fans in a frenzy, as planes were flown across the country ensure no one missed the first-day first show.
Debutant of the Year – HARSHVARDHAN KAPOOR
Jim Sarbh has been the most impressive debutant this year in terms of acting, but it was Sonam Kapoor’s younger brother who we couldn’t stop talking about. Maybe because a lot of expectations rested on the young boy’s shoulders. Mirzya flopped at the box office, but HK did not fail to impress.
Best Transformation – AAMIR KHAN
Many celebrities underwent massive transformations this year – some for their roles, while some in general. Randeep Hooda and Vaani Kapoor lost a lot of weight for Sarbjit and Befikre
Most Talked About Style – RANVEER SINGH
Move over, Sonam Kapoor. Ranveer Singh has taken over the Style Throne. The actor has grabbed eyeballs at every Red Carpet event, award function, and even while he is in plain clothes. Ranveer’s style is never ordinary; it always has a hint of ‘quirky’. Check out his best looks here:
Trendsetter of the Year – ALIA BHATT
Not just this year, Alia Bhatt has been a trendsetter ever since her entry into Bollywood. This year, many of her outfits from Kapoor and Sons and Dear Zindagi caught the eye of fashionistas. Even her airport looks, her ensembles during her film promotions and her birthday outfit are highly stylish.
Best Red Carpet Look – PRIYANKA CHOPRA
While Deepika Padukone dazzled in many Red Carpet events with her amazing style, it was Priyanka Chopra who stole the show at the Oscars. The Zuhair Murad dress was a daring sheer, with delicate detailing and a sweetheart neckline, along with $8 million USD worth of jewels.
Celebrity Couple That Melted Our Hearts – THE MONKEYS
Divyanka Tripathi and Vivek Dahiya may have been the most-talked-about couple this year, but when it comes to relationship goals, no one does it better than Bipasha Basu and Karan Singh Grover. They got married in April, but still appear to be in a honeymoon state of love.
Star Kid of the Year – TAIMUR ALI KHAN
Move over Aryan, Navya and Jhanvi, the birth of the new Kapoor-Khan seems to have taken all the attention away from the teenagers. Even though Taimur Ali Khan has been in the news for all the wrong reasons (with no fault of his own), the baby continues making headlines with mere glimpses. Photogs, journalists and fans cannot get enough of him, and even celebs have joined his 10-days old fandom.
