Top 5 Airline Disaster Films

Are you one of those travelers who always imagines the worst before boarding a flight? You’ve packed your bags. While you are on your way to the airport, there’s this inexplicable and restless churning going on in your stomach… Like something will go drastically wrong. You’ve watched way too much television and heard it on the news – planes crashing, hijacks, planes disappearing. It’s only natural to have your b*lls in your mouth.
Here are 5 must-watch airline disaster films that will have you on the edge-of-your-seat… Because who doesn’t enjoy some jeopardy?

1. United 93 (2006)
From the director of Bloody Sunday and The Bourne Supremacy comes a nail-biting film based on the 9/11 attacks. The film makes you wonder what you’d have done had you been on that plane. Even if you don’t shed a tear, you’ll definitely feel perturbed by the end of it.

2. Alive (1993)
This one is for those who like things going bizarre. A plane crashes in the snow-capped Andes Mountains, and the survivors begin to feed on the dead passengers. The film is dreadful, tragic but worth the watch.

3. Cast Away (2000)
This is more than just an ‘airline disaster‘ film. Starring the brilliant Tom Hanks, Cast Away explores the theme of Man vs. Nature, and the human survival instinct. Tom plays a FedEx executive, who miraculously survives a devastating plane crash and is marooned on an island. Cast Away is some brutal and powerful stuff.

4. Flight (2012)
Flight stars Denzel Washington and is directed by the guy who gave us Forrest Gump and Cast Away. In this action-packed mystery thriller, Denzel plays the role of a pilot. He saves his plane from crashing, despite being under the influence of alcohol. The drama that follows is probably more intense than the crash scene.

5. Non-Stop (2014)
Despite mixed reviews, it’s impossible to not appreciate Liam Neeson playing yet another action hero – Bill Marks, a U.S. Air Marshall who receives threat messages on the flight. Non-stop is an elaborate thriller that’s packed with suspense, fun, and all the edge-of-your-seat stuff.
