Top 5 Films Inspired By Stephen Hawking

Happy birthday to Stephen William Hawking, who turns 75 today. The theoretical physicistcosmologistauthor is also the Director of Research at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology (University of Cambridge). If we begin to talk about his scientific work and contributions, we might not finish anytime soon. Sadly, Hawking has amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) that has gradually paralysed him over the decades. He communicates using a single cheek muscle attached to a speech-generating device. But none of this has ever stopped him from being a legend in the world of science. While there are numerous TV series based on him and his work, we have listed five of the best films that were based on this genius.

The Theory of Everything (2014)

It is adapted from the memoir 'Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen' written by Jane herself. Eddie Redmayne played the titular role, winning a Golden Globe amongst other nominations.

Hawking (2013)
Also known as 'Stephen Hawking: A Brief History of Mine', this documentary film features Hawking himself describing his life from childhood, his struggle with ALS and his later recognition as a world-famous scientist.

Hawking (2004)
This BBC television film is about Stephen's early years as a PhD student at Cambridge University, following his search for the beginning of time and his struggle against ALS. Benedict Cumberbatch's portrayal of Hawking was the first-ever portrayal of the physicist on screen.

A Brief History of Time (1991)
Directed by Errol Morris, this biographical documentary film's music was composed by Philip Glass. The film features interviews with family members, colleagues, and even his childhood nanny.

This documentary follows a reporter who needs to write a feature story about cosmology and the meaning of existence. Her interview with Hawking sets her on a journey through time and space.
