“Oh My God! Oh My God! Oh My God! Game of Thrones Season 5 is coming! Can’t wait! Oh My God!” – Everyone on the Internet currently.
Yes, the wait has been difficult. Now that half the world has caught up with the first four seasons of Game of Thrones, the excitement over the next season is justified. We can hardly wait for the Season 5 premier ourselves. But for now, a trailer is all we have. The new season promises grander set-pieces, with scenes shot with IMAX cameras and some more blood-curdling backstabbing.
So we decided to break down the latest trailer to take a guess at what is coming next. There are no spoilers here. So you can join in on the speculations. The ones who have read the books already know what’s coming next. But who needs them? Am I right?First, let’s have a close look at the trailer here:
What strikes you first is the fact that the tides have changed. No one is innocent anymore. Add to that, this awesome new version of David Bowie’s Heroes, and goosebumps are guaranteed.
Here’s what you may have blinked and missed in the trailer:
1. Away from King’s Landing
Our first glimpse at Peter Dinklage’s Tyrion Lannister is when he abruptly exits the crate he was hiding in after he murdered his father in cold blood. Tywin deserved to die, yes. But what about Tyrion? His sister seems to be pretty riled up about it and wants him dead. Moreover, his only companion on this horrendous journey is Lord Varys, who has a penchant for gossip. But suffice it to say, Tyrion and Varys are pretty much on the same boat. Literally speaking.
2. The new King!
So by now, it is common knowledge that that obnoxious space-eating product of incest (who is also known as Joffrey) is dead. And obviously, his younger brother Tommen is now supposed to be king. What’s interesting here is that Margaery Tyrell has already cuddled up to Tommen, and it looks like wedding bells shall ring. We just hope Robert Baratheon’s new heir is not as evil as his dead brother.
3. Jaime in Dorne
While the younger Lannister is busy trying to stay alive, the older Lannister is on his way to the exotic part of the Seven Kingdoms. Is Jaime in Dorne to make amends for The Red Viper’s death? From what we have heard, Oberyn’s older brother Doran is even more of a badass. But in a very subtle way. The guy did lose his brother. Is revenge on the cards?
4. Drogon is pissed
Daenerys, on the other hand, didn’t have much to do in the last season. The Mother of Dragons can be heard saying, “I am not going to stop the wheel. I am going to break the wheel.” Whatever that means! But we also get a good look at Drogon, who has grown bigger and fiercer. And nothing pisses him off more than when people try to mess with his mother. The falling of the statue from atop the pyramid is also not a good sign at all.
5. The battle north of the wall
Probably the best episode from last season was the battle that took place at the wall. But the fight seems far from over. Even with Stannis Baratheon’s help, can the men of the Night’s Watch manage to hold their ground? Only the next season will tell.
Also, Arya’s storyline has gotten so much more interesting. Along with Dorne, we will get to see a lot more of Bravos. It will be great to see what Season 5 of Game of Thrones has in store for us. In the meanwhile, Valar Morghulis.
