Yesterday at PVR Juhu, the trailer of Imtiaz Ali’s Highway was launched amidst much fanfare and presence of journalists. At the venue the cast and crew of Highway which includes Imtiaz Ali, Alia Bhatt and Randeep Hooda were present. But the biggest surprise was when the Mozart of Madras Mr A. R. Rehman arrived. The whole launch was properly planned and the trailer was screened for the first time. The sweetest part of the launch was the opening up of the event by Imtiaz Ali’s daughter. After that the photo session, trailer was shown followed by the questions from the media. Alia Bhatt and Imtiaz Ali gave answers to the various questions that were posed to them.
particularly seemed emotional recalling her experience of making this movie and called this a journey of lifetime she will always remember. She quoted this as one of those experiences she never had in life and further said that she belongs to urban India and started working at a young age so in a way it was a way to relive those moments she missed in life. With her eyes getting moist she said that actually she has grown with the movie. Then it was the turn of Imtiaz Ali and the director said that he felt like making this movie at this point of time and all who are concerned with the project showed interest in the story and the project materialized. He said further that journey is at the heart of the film and Highway deals a lot with the relationships that are formed along the course. A.R.Rehman was also on stage and wished Highway best of luck. When Rehman was on stage, Imtiaz said that a day before the event he smsed him asking that whether he could be present on the day of the event to which he saw ‘yes’ as a reply although he had no idea that A.R. Rehman was in India or abroad. Finally seeing him attending the event means a lot for him and the crew members.
The trailer of the film is certainly promising one and bears distinctive flair of Imtiaz Ali movies. Shot in various locales across six states, both Alia Bhatt and Randeep Hooda
appears as completely different characters, but the chemistry between them is vibrant on screen, for sure. Imtiaz’s movies are always talking about journeys in the sense that one main character in his film is always on a journey of sorts. Whether it is an external journey like Geet in Jab We Met or Janardhan Jakhad’s internal journey in Rockstar. Leave even this! In his first movie Socha Na Tha, both Abhay Deol
and Ayesha Takia
actually elope on a truck when everybody wanted them to marry each other. These are the beautiful moments that an Imtiaz Ali movie is made of. So, it is no surprise that this time also travelling is at the centre stage and the filmmaker is hoping again to tell an interesting story. Making the movie which involves the experience of travelling requires top-notch cinematography and yet again, Anil Mehta’s classic style is evident here. A.R. Rehman has given music in Imtiaz Ali’s previous film Rockstar. The music of Rockstar
was a superhit and this time also it seems that the music of Highway is going to be nothing short of awesome. The trailer reminds us of the folk and rural side of India, making its rustic element the very charm of romance missing in urban lives. For now, everybody is waiting to watch this movie when it opens in theatres on 21st Feb, 2014.
