Have you ever watched a movie and really really liked it? So much that it left you wanting more that you hoped for it to never end or in some cases maybe even wished for a sequel to it? While in most of the cases the sequels are usually hyped and highly promoted to cash in on the popularity of the first movie, here are a few movies (mostly from the 80s and 90s) which you perhaps didn’t know had a sequel; some popular, some not really. If you are someone who has lived in the 80s and 90s, you’ll easily know what we are talking about.
Movie: The Mask
Sequel: Son of the Mask
The original movie The Mask starring Jim Carrey that released in 1994 was a major hit. The sequel though, Son of the Mask (2005) which released eleven years later was not only unheard of, but was also criticized by a few too many.
Movie: Dirty Dancing
Sequel: Dirty Dancing- Havana Nights
One of the most popular movies of 1987, Dirty Dancing, starred Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. The dance drama had a sequel made to it in 2004. Dirty Dancing – Havana Nights with a rather similar story-line failed to make news not even coming anywhere close to the original movie’s popularity.
Movie: Home Alone 1 and 2
Sequel: Home Alone 3, 4 and 5
After the success of Home Alone 1 and 2 in 1990 and 1992 came the third part of the franchise, Home Alone 3 in 1997, which did not really please the audience. Despite this, the makers still went on to release parts 4 and 5. Not many we can say rated those movies very highly.
Sequel: Birds II Land’s End
A sequel to Alfred Hitchcock‘s thriller Birds, the movie Birds II released in 1994 and is just as unheard of as any unmade movie.
Movie: Wizard of Oz
Sequel: Return of Oz
Now this one is an exception since it released way before the 80s and 90s. The 1935 release had a sequel 46 years later in 1985. Although the movie was not bad, the only people who were aware about it were very very few.
