Fans of the video game franchise are eagerly looking forward to the Assassin’s Creed movie hitting theaters this week. Cinematic adaptations of video games hold a lot of potential as they already have established fans who have loved to play the games and would come to see it in theaters. Modern games also happen to be usually heavily story-based. An adaptation could work with a script based off the games or with an original script set in the worlds of the games. Some video games also have rich worlds that can support many original storylines. We’d love to see these video games on the big screen.
A tale of revenge, betrayal and a lot of action with the Spartan warrior Kratos as the central character. CGI could also be used to create realistic gods and take the movie to a whole other level.
The Last of Us
The highly rated game would translate well into a movie. Joel and Ellie are compelling characters who drive the story which is set in the post-apocalyptic United States. Cinematic in itself, a good director could easily create a masterpiece.
Red Dead Redemption
With Westworld bringing back the popularity of Westerns, a Red Dead Redemption movie would be perfect. Set in the 1900s, John Marston’s life is a story to tell in itself. Know the Chinese curse “May you live in interesting times”? Well, John’s lived it.
The stunning visuals of the game need to be brought to life. Elder Scrolls has enough lore to create more than one movie script. This has to be a big-budget fantasy movie to do justice to the video game series.
