Verdict: Mohanlal once again proves himself as a complete actor.
Mohanlal – the complete actor – is back on screen with the intense thriller Villain. His fourth film this year, Villain is directed by B. Unnikrishnan who has earlier done movies like Grandmaster and Madambi with Mohanlal. They were all blockbuster hits, so the duo is known to strike gold. But will this film join the other movies in the blockbuster list? Let's find out.
What's Villain About:
Mohanlal plays the role of a cop named Mathew Manjooran, who goes on a leave for seven months following a personal tragedy. He returns to the force again but on his day of joining, he takes a voluntary retirement. On the last day of his service, the city is hit with the news of a triple murder. A few days later, another triple murder takes place and the team led by Mathew soon discover that the latest crime is related to the previous murders. To know how are they related, what the motive behind the mass killings is and if Mathew Manjooran will solve this mystery, you will have to watch the film.
Mohanlal, as usual, is at his best. If there is an actor in the Malayalam film industry who can emote pain in a way that tugs at your heartstrings, it's none other than Lalettan. Manju Warrier has a brief role but she manages to do her part well. Same is the case with Aju Varghese as Chruttu Kannapi and Chemban Vinod as Iqbal, another cop. Villain, an emotional thriller, written and directed by B. Unnikrishnan and produced by Rockline Venkatesh will keep you entertained till the end. Mollywood debutantes Hansika, Raashi and Vishal have done a commendable job portraying their characters. Vishal Krishna Reddy as a maniac out to serve justice in his own way also does a fantastic job. Raashi Khanna too has a decent role as a cop and she delivers well.
Visuals with well-shot close-ups of Mohanlal's face show you the intensity of the situation, giving you goosebumps. One particular shot of Mohanlal's face with teardrops falling from his eyes is simply stunning and sets the mood for this intense thriller.
What Could Have Been Better:
The pace of the film's narration could have definitely been quicker. The slow pace and a not-so-fresh plot makes Villain just like your average thriller.
Why You Should Watch This Movie:
This film needs to be watched for Mohanlal, definitely. If you are a fan of suspense-thrillers, you should give it a go.
