Not all reboots are welcome – take the recently released example of 'The Mummy'. But when it comes to The Planet of the Apes, which first released in 1968, the reboot series from 2011 onwards was very well received. Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which released 6 years ago, was followed by Dawn of the Planet of the Apes in 2014 and now War for the Planet of the Apes is all set to release this week.
The third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise is directed by Matt Reeves and written by Mark Bomback and Reeves. The film stars Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Steve Zahn, Amiah Miller, Karin Konoval, Judy Greer and Terry Notary. Caesar (Serkis) and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless colonel (Harrelson). After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and 'The Colonel' are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.
From the trailer we can say that we look forward to this one as well. The people working on this, right from Reeves to Serkis, are credible and contribute to keeping the series real. While the visual effects and action will always be praised, its the complex storyline that is appreciated as well. This film's planning started before production of the previous one had completed. Not just that, last year they already announced that a fourth Planet of the Apes film is already being planned. The apes continue to rise.
