Held at the Mehboob Studio in Bandra West, We The Women was a two-day affair dedicated towards the welfare of women. It addressed issues like sexual harassment, women empowerment, mental health, and a whole lot more.
The first day included a session with Ekta Kapoor and Smriti Irani, hosted by Karan Johar. The Union Minister spoke about her collaboration with Kapoor and how they achieved massive success with the Hindi television show – Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. A screening of the film Sex Ki Adalat, Aranya Johar’s talk on gender gap and Twinkle Khanna’s session about menstruation were some of the highlights of Day 1. The maximum crowd showed up to watch Alia Bhatt grill Barkha Dutt. Tilted 'Role Reversal', the actress questioned the veteran journalist on various topics. Nishtha Swayam later honored Bhatt with the H.E.R Award.
On the second day, Harish Iyer, Tisca Chopra, Poonam Muttreja, Mrunalini Deshmukh and Nishita Jha discussed sexual harassment at workplace. They spoke of how women often stay mum, which gives their perpetrators the upper hand. The best part of this talk was the correlation between power and consent. Once this session wrapped up, Chandro Tomar – better known as Revolver Dadi – and her granddaughter took the stage. The octogenarian has won over 25 national championships in shooting and is currently the oldest sharpshooter in the world. The number of people waiting to click a selfie with her was a clear indication of her popularity.
The next session was with Gurmehar Kaur and Shobha De. The columnist spoke about how women are made to believe that beauty is skin deep. She also claimed that if she was on Tinder, her ideal match would be a man from the Indian Army who loved Elvis Presley songs. Farhan Akhtar – who calls himself "The Feminist Man" – ended this fantastic event with a live performance.
Besides the interactive sessions that took place inside, there was a mini flea market and plenty of food stalls for people to grab a bite. A giant screen was set up outside so that those who couldn't get a seat, didn't miss out on the inspiring talks. A big thumbs up to the organizers for having ample of outdoor seating.
