When Hollywood Was ‘Inspired’ by Bollywood

Bollywood has always been on the receiving end of criticism for their movies being ‘inspired’ by those from other countries. But they are not entirely to be blamed as there are a lot of similar concepts running around that have been appreciated by the audience, and some filmmakers prefer to run with something which is tried and tested. Also, the Bollywood twist added to these movies always makes them an enjoyable experience. However, B-town isn’t the only place where movies are duplicated. Hollywood does it, too. (Yes, they do!) It’s shocking but we have some pretty hard evidence which cannot be ignored, of films that have been inspired from Bollywood.

Just Go With It (2011) inspired from Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya (2005)

A doctor falls in love with a girl and tells her he is married (but he isn’t) and then hires his assistant to act like his wife. Both these movies have the same storyline with the same ending. We would not have believed it but the evidence is pretty clear.

A Common Man (2013) copied A Wednesday (2008)

This Neeraj Pandey movie is going to stay in our hearts for many years to come. But the people in Hollywood appreciated it so much that they decided to make an official remake of the movie. (We don’t blame them here.)

Delivery Man (2013) copied Vicky Donor (2012)

Vicky Donor, Delivery Man - BookMyShowBoth the movies are romantic comedies set in the background of sperm donation. They have some differences in the plot such as Vince fathering 533 children and Vicky only 53, but they both the deal with the repercussions of serial sperm donation. Incidentally, the original concept of a sperm donation-based movie came from Canadian cinema with a movie called Starbuck, which was based on true incidents, revolving around a man who fathered 150 children.

Fear (1996) copied from Darr (1993)

The name is not the only thing they have directly translated. A lot of other plot points like the stalking, the love-triangle, and the madness was also portrayed in this James Foley movie.

Hitch (2005) from Choti Si Baat (1975)

Almost 30 years after its release, Hollywood decided to make a similar movie on a professional ‘love guru’ helping a friend in need, to start a relationship with his crush. (Yes, Partner is thought to be copied from Hitch, but is it really?)

The list shows that everyone needs some inspiration in life, sometimes. What do you think about the list? Tell us in your comments below and don’t forget to share this with your friends.
