The Indian entertainment market is at its peak in terms of hosting events that have an international appeal. We, as a country, have embraced international acts with open arms and also provided a big audience and apt platform for them. Events in 2013 India, were full of international acts and hopefully this trend will continue.
According to an article by the Rolling Stones Magazine, not a single band or artist has stepped off the stage without giving a reference to our culture.
Why choose India? One of the biggest reasons of touring India is getting an opportunity to perform to a brand new audience. However, in spite of several shows and concerts being rescheduled, revised, some cancelled and even blocked India continues to hold a monolithic appeal. Same applies for concerts in Mumbai 2013. Hosting events in 2013 India, has been a topsy-turvy ride. Recently, Fly Music Festival packed with industry biggies that included Limp Bizkit, Anthrax, Mastodon, The Doors, KT Tunstall and The Wailers was put off exactly a week ahead of its announced date.
Music buffs who had booked their tickets, ranted with full force on social media and all medias and platforms possible as many of them were flying out to another city for the festival. The funny part; artists who weren’t informed about the news, posted sunny social media updates about performing in India.
In the year 2012, Korn’s Mumbai concert was canceled and the organizers cited inconvenient ground conditions. Back in 2011, apoplectic Metallica fans damaged equipment in Delhi when they reached the venue only to be told that the show was postponed.
However when Metallica performed in Bengaluru the band’s drummer Lars Ulrich announced after the concert that they would like to perform here again.
Co-founder of Only Much Louder, Vijay Nair, says that international artist promoters are always extra cautious about India, because they doubt the credibility of agents. However, Nair blames international agents for such mishaps because sometimes they pick up gigs just because an organizer has agreed to offer them more moolah than others.
India remains a grey area for international festival organizers. In Mumbai, Swedish House Mafia’s concert had to be cancelled because Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray met his death. Despite this, SHM was keen to perform in India and put up a packed show performance in Mumbai this year.
In India the alternative music scene is flourishing with never before with festival after festival taking off every coming up.
The Indian audiences are willing to buy big-tickets for these international acts. Due to various ticketing platforms and contests running on online media, it has now become easy to buy cheap concert tickets. Now there is no need to stand in a long queue to buy tickets and all purchasing can be done online.
