In India, where celebrities are idolized, brands mint money at the expense of this craziness. Celebrities also cash on these advertisements, earning as high as 2 crore for a 60-second commercial. Jingles like ‘don’t shave it, just veet it‘  and ‘dekho dekhe yeh zamana, panchi uda jaa ye re‘ linger in your mind; sometimes you can even find yourself humming it. Creating ads like these has seemingly become an ad makers marketing strategy. Here are a few umm questionable commercials that actors have starred in.

Kapil Sharma – OLX ads

With his comedy show and movie, Kapil Sharma is a household name, but with the OLX ad, Kapil Sharma has literally become every household appliance and commodity. Let’s just say these ads are the most amazing.

Saif Ali Khan – Amul Macho
How cool it would be if race events were won by wearing a Amul Macho Banyan, dancing you way through the finish line.

Salman Khan – Wheel Detergent
With this Wheel ad, Salman proves that Bhai kuch bhi kar sakta hai aur kuch bhi bech sakta hai.

Shahrukh Khan – Fair and Handsome
This advert is absolutely ridiculous. Shahrukh Khan is known to endorse anything – from something as trivial as a pen to even a cooling talc. In 2014, The Times of India reported that Khan had doubled his fee for promoting a pan masala brand after learning they had first approached another actor. At ₹200 million (US$3.0 million), he was ranked first on the list of high profile brand ambassadors for 2008, a year in which Khan endorsed 39 brands.

Akshay Kumar – Baba Elaichi
Akshay Kumar, who is known to jump off buildings and helicopters in his Thumbs Up ads, is now endorsing a mouth freshener named Baba Elaichi, one that he carries all over the world with him. This ad found itself trending on Twitter for 2 days and people wondered if Twitter was still the platform to discuss important things. Priyanka Chopra, Ajay Devgn and Saif Ali Khan are not far away, endorsing elaichi and mouth fresheners.

Sonakshi Sinha – Colgate
Watching Sonakshi Sinha come out of the theatre screen to ask you if your toothpaste has salt! Isn`t that the brightest way to sell your product?

Have you seen any of these ads? Which one do you find the funniest?
