Why Grey’s Anatomy will never be the same again

”It’s a beautiful day to save lives." Not!

She killed George, we wept. She took Lexie out, we cried. McSteamy died, we could not believe it. And now, she has taken the life out of Grey’s Anatomy by killing our favorite character in the show, Derek Shepherd a.k.a McDreamy. Seriously, Shonda Rhimes? Do you even have a heart? Who’s going to be the Der in MerDer? Tears, tears and only tears! Fans of the show in India will have to wait to witness the tragic story of Derek’s death in season 11. But the news spread like wild fire as soon as ABC aired the April 23 episode. Excuse us while we drown in a pool of sadness.

After starring in 11 seasons of the Emmy Award-winning show Grey’s Anatomy, Patrick Dempsey has finally parted ways to pursue other interests. (Heartbreak!) Though, his contract officially runs until 2016. In the April 23 episode titled “How To Save A Life”, Dr. Derek gets into a car crash that ultimately results in his death. (Sob!) Creator Shonda Rhimes faced the biggest outrage yet, as fans showed their displeasure on social media at this shocking turn of events. But it wasn’t the death that caused such an uproar among the show’s loyal audience. It was the way it happened. A neurosurgeon, (probably the best in Seattle) who saved a million lives on the show is now BRAIN DEAD! Why? Because a careless team of doctors conveniently failed to identify where the injury was! Oh, what an irony. It was time to pull the plug. And who’d it be? Of course, Meredith. Are you kidding me, Shonda? What’s worse, you ask? They played “Chasing Cars” in the background just as Meredith felt his heart stop beating. Do you experience flashbacks already?

Of all the unfortunate incidents/deaths that have occured at the Seattle Grace/Grey Sloan Memorial hospital, this was definitely the hardest pill to swallow. I mean, who can imagine Meredith Grey without Derek Shepherd? The show’s TRP was already on a decline since the past couple of seasons, especially after Meredith’s bestie, Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) left the show. But now, with Derek’s departure, it’s going to be harder. Not just for Shonda to keep the show up and running like before, but for fans who loved McDreamy. There can never be a Grey’s Anatomy without a Derek Shepherd. This is the end, at least for us.

Grey’s Anatomy was always about its central character, Meredith Grey. But it is the supporting cast that has contributed equally to the show’s smashing success over the years. Most of all, it was the character of Derek Shepherd that gave life to Meredith’s. The duo was the perfect example of a perfect couple – full of love, strength and compassion. Mer’s life will now take a drastic turn, focusing on the challenges she faces hereon. Derek Shepherd will be missed truly and deeply – it goes without saying.

McDreamy is dead. Can we get over this? NO!
