Meet the director, Dilip Mehta
Dilip Mehta is a noted filmmaker and a photojournalist based in Canada. He is also the brother of the talented filmmaker, Deepa Mehta, who gave us thought-provoking films such as Fire, Earth, Water, and so on. Dilip has also won numerous prizes for covering the Bhopal Gas Tragedy. Through this documentary he plans to portray Sunny's life tastefully.
Made by chance
Dilip was approached for this film in 2013, right around the time when the gruesome Delhi gang-rape case had happened. At that point, he had almost dropped the project. Later, after meeting Sunny in Mumbai, and he decided to give this project a shot and thought that the documentary would be a good way to portray her character and show how she managed to turn a dime into a dollar.
Sunny’s unapologetic journey
Sunny’s journey to Bollywood is filled with a lot of ups and downs. From her relationship with her family, to how the community perceives her because of her adult film industry background, to making it big in Bollywood, all the little details are covered in this documentary. For Sunny, nothing was off-the-record.
An introduction to Sunny’s husband, Daniel Weber
After moving to LA, Sunny met her husband Daniel Weber, who was also from the adult film industry. Sunny had mentioned that Daniel does play a major role in her life and through this documentary that will also be portrayed.
Controversial Toronto International Film Festival
The premiere of this documentary was held at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival. Dilip and Deep Mehta had also organized the lunch in the honor of Sunny Leone and her husband. However, due to some family commitment (Daniel's nephew's Bar Mitzvah ceremony which was planned in advance), Sunny was not able to attend the screening. This somehow didn’t go down well with the organizers and raised questions about her commitment towards the project. The film has got an international distributor and is about the release soon. But will this lead to some unexpected changes? Watch this space for more.
