The Winners of the 61st National Film Awards

The Directorate of Film Festivals announced the winners of the prestigious 61st National Film Awards on April 16, 2014. The National Film Awards is honored to the nominees to celebrate the best of Indian feature and non-feature films. The winners of the 61st National Film Awards are:

Best Feature Film: Ship of Theseus (English-Hindi)

Indira Gandhi Award for Best Debut Film of a Director: Fandry (Marathi)

Best Popular Film providing Wholesome Entertainment: Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (Hindi)

Nargis Dutt Award for Best film on National Integration: Talaimuraigal (Tamil)

Best Director: Hansal Mehta for Shahid (Hindi)

Best Actor: Rajkumar Rao  for Shahid (Hindi) & Suraj Venjaramoodu for Perariyathavar (Malayalam)

Best Actress: Geetanjali Thapa – Liar’s Dice (Hindi)

Best Supporting Actor:
Saurabh Shukla for Jolly LLB (Hindi)

Best Supporting Actress: Amruta Subhash for Astu (Hindi) & Aida El-Kashef for Ship of Theseus (English-Hindi)

Best Child Artist:
Somnath Avghade for Fandry (Marathi) & Sadhana for Thanga Meengal (Tamil)

Best Film on on Social Issues:
Tuhya Dharma Koncha (Marathi)

Best Film on Environment Conservation/Preservation: Perariyathavar (Malayalam)

Bengali movie, Jaatishwar, bagged awards in the following catergories:

Best Male Playback Singer, Best Costume Designer, Best Make-Up Artist, Best Music Direction (Songs)

Best Female Playback Singer: Tuhya Dharma Koncha (Marathi)

Best Music (Background Score): Na Bangaaru Talli (Telugu)

Best Lyrics: Thanga Meengal (Tamil)

Best Cinematography:
Liar’s Dice (Hindi)

Best Screenplay (Original): Decemeber 1(Kannada)

Best Screenplay (Adapted): Prakruti (Kannada)

Best Screenplay (Dialogues): Ashtu (Marathi)

Madras Café (Hindi) won the National Film Awards for Best Audiography (Location Sound Recordist & Sound Design), while Swapaanam (Malayalam) bagged the award for Best Audiography (Re-recordist of the final mixed track).

Best Editing: Vallinam (Tamil)

Best Production Design: Miss Lovely (Hindi)

Best Special Effects: Jal (Hindi)

Best Choreography: Maston Ka Jhund from Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (Hindi)

Special Jury Awards: Miss Lovely (Hindi) & Yellow (Marathi)

Best Feature Film in Assamese:
Ajeyo
Best Feature Film in Bengali: Bakita Byaktigato
Best Feature Film in Hindi: Jolly LLB
Best Feature Film in Kannada: December 1
Best Feature Film in Konkani: Baga Beach
Best Feature Film in Malayalam: North 24 Kaadham
Best Feature Film in Marathi: Aajcha Diwas Majha
Best Feature Film in Tamil: Thanga Meengal
Best Feature Film in Telugu: Na Bangaaru Talli
Best Feature Film in English: The Coffin Maker

In the non-feature film category, Rangbhoomi (Hindi) bagged the Best Non-Feature Film Award, while Gulabi Gang (Hindi, Bundelkhandi) won the Best Film on Social Issues.
