xXx: Return of Xander Cage: Film Review – Vin for Deepika

Verdict: Less talk more action.

It's a Vin Diesel movie, it has to have all the fueled up action. xXx – the third edition is here and it is packed with action sequences, gun fights, bike chase – on land and on water, extreme sports, future tech, big cars and all the action flick essentials you can think of mashed up in one. And you will love it.

Gibbons (Samuel L. Jackson) is trying to recruit another xXx and a satellite, which is on fire, falls on him. This leads to a council meeting about "Pandora's Box" – a weapon that could control all the artificial satellites and blast them anywhere on the Earth. Right after we know all about the box, a guy jumps into the cabin from the roof and snatches it. Now, nobody but Xander Cage (Vin Diesel), who is thought to be long dead, can find these people who stole the Pandora's Box and save humanity.

When you enter the theatre to watch an action flick you expect action, car crashes, chases and a story to just cue all of this up. This movie has exactly all of this. The opening credits get the adrenaline rushing with the background score to gear you up for what's coming. Enter Deepika. In her Hollywood debut, she has more screen space than the Jurassic park owner does in Jurassic park – third edition. Deepika has done a tremendous job at playing an xXx. She has retained her Indian accent, which might initially sound like a misfit, but soon you swoon over her as she kicks asses. She has kept it original and kudos to that. There were more whistles and hoots on her entry than was in the theatre while Salman's entry in Dabangg. Just imagine.

It is not just action in a movie that can warrant the adjective "action packed". What matters more is the swag it carries. And the xXx be slaying. Xander was given an option of a few soldiers but he didn't want them to back him up so he called his band of maverick crazies. His team has Adele (Ruby Rose) with turquoise hair, Tennyson (Rory McCann) with a record of 198 car crashes and Nicks (Kris Wu) because he is good to hang out with and plays eclectic music. On the other hand, Xiang's team (played by Donnie Yen) has Serena (Deepika Padukone), Hawk (Michael Bisping) to match up to Diesel's physique, Talon (Tony Jaa) a silver haired guy who runs towards an accelerated bike, jumps, kicks the rider off the bike, sits on the bike and then stops it with a stoppie. (This was not a spoiler, just a glimpse of what all you'd be watching.) Badass, ain't it?

Vin Diesel has exchanged his fast cars for ski blades, skates, bikes and one huge aircraft. His action sequences are smooth and power-packed. Stay calm cause you might be back and forth on your seats without realizing. After the Silent Night, he has Pandora's Box to get away with. If you haven't seen the first part, don't worry because you'd enjoy the movie as much as those who have seen it. Xander himself is coming back from dead.

In all the fighters there's always a not-so-fighter nerd who takes care of all the hacking and jamming tasks (another action movie essential, to be noted). The nerd here is Becky (Nina Dobrev) who knows everything about everything. And there's a scene where Nina and Diesel both smile at each other. Filmmakers should have put a disclaimer of not being liable for all the causalities because of cuteness overload. Undoubtedly, the casting is just on point.

There are killer scenes, plenty of chases and a lot of eye candy. The movie is high on testosterone and is exactly what a Vin Diesel fan would want. For those who fall in the bracket, this one is a treat.

Why You Should Watch The Movie
If you are an action junkie and like gun fights, people fighting and everything crashing, you would not want to miss this one. Watch it for Deepika, not because it's her debut and she needs the support but because she has kicked some serious ass in the movie. Specially, watch it for the gun fight where Ruby Rose and Deepika back each other.
