The aim of this tour is to get a power-packed download of the rich Mughal history in the heart of Delhi! This tour will bring you close to the yesteryears to enchant and enthrall you. They start the tour at McDonald's, Chandni Chowk. Here,Sherpa will entertain you with an exciting lecture on the history of Old Delhi and then move to the Gauri Shankar temple where you would get a clear view of the Red Fort. You will be told about its lesser known connection with the Second World War.
Then you will be taken to the iconic ''Jalebiwala'' where they will delve into the amazing taste of extra-large jalebis. Their next stop is Haldirams and Gurudwara Sisganj which is the place of martyrdom of the ninth Sikh saint, Guru Teg Bahadur and then explore the narrow by lanes of old Delhi through Ballimaran. They cover places like Mirza Ghalib's Haveli and soak in the Islamic heritage of the imperial city of Shahjahanabad.
They then take you to majestic Jama Masjid where you climb up one of its minarets which give a 360 degree view of Delhi and then explore the distinct tastes of Mughlai food around Jama Masjid which includes delicacies like Shahi Tukda, Roasted Chicken, Phirni, Seekh Kebabs and Biryani. This tour is a perfect balance of Food (both vegetarian and non-vegetarian) and Heritage. They finally end the tour at the Chawri Bazaar metro station. I am a passionate history student, a food buff and a travel freak.
My historical tours contain facts, anecdotes and tales of the past. I know a great deal about historical sites in and around Delhi and am also a food enthusiast. Currently an undergraduate student of history at Hansraj College, University of Delhi. A student by day and a Sherpa by evening.
