Raga is a well-structured melodic entity, which has a distinct character and mood of its own. In the hands of creative artistes, ragas can be woven together to form a colourful melodic garland (mala) known as Ragamala. Shivkumar Sharmas name is synonymous with santoor, an instrument from the folk tradition of Kashmir. His pioneering efforts have given the instrument its unique ''voice'' and idiom, and helped it acquire a position on par with other string instrumentsof classicalIndian music. In this uniquepresentation, the inimitable maestro will create amala(garland) of exquisiteragas, transiting from one scale to another.
