Dusshera is one of the most important festivals and celebrated the victory of good over evil. Legend has I that Lord Ram, vanquished the ten-headed Lanka King Ravana after a fierce and brutal battle which lasted ten days. It was on the tenth day when Lord Ram defeated Ravana who had kidnapped the virtuous Sita and held her captive. As a reminder of the fact that in the end, though the struggle would be harsh, good will always triumph over evil, Ravan Dahan is done all over the country. Effigies of Ravana are made, filled with firecrackers and set alight – even as Ravana burns so do all the evils and fears we have within us.

Leon’s World Centre for Holistic Learning and Development has organised Ravan Dahan with a difference at Rustomjee Urbania this Dussehra. In order to make Ravan Dahan child and environment-friendly, the effigy will not be set on fire – instead of firecrackers, it will be made from balloons filled with flowers. The children get to through darts at the balloons and enjoy the shower of flower petals each time a balloon burst and the entire effigy is destroyed – a sense of empowerment and a feeling of accomplishment for the children themselves.

The festivities will continue with children taking part in Dandiya Ras with their parents, playing with herbal ‘gulal’ and partaking of traditional Indian sweets and snacks from the stall at the venue.   The DJ will play foot tapping music to get everyone in the festive mood and dancing to the beat.
