Chuski Natak Ki - Binder

Drama | Hindi | Age 16+

Bookbinder Sakharam thinks he has the system by the tail and he can disregard the cultural and societal values as long as he is truthful. That system is the enslavement of women in post-colonial India. He picks up other men's discarded women—castoff wives who would otherwise be homeless, destitute or murdered with impunity, and takes them in as domestic servants and sex partners. He rules his home like a tin-pot tyrant. What he does not anticipate are the moral and emotional complications of this arrangement, which prove heartbreakingly ruinous to everyone involved.

"Chuski Natak Ki" is an event conducted by "Theatre On Your Own" who plan to read classic plays in a dramatic manner, discuss the work of renowned playwrights, figure out the craft used in the great plays. It all happens over a chuski of tea and some snacks.

This time we are revisiting Vijay Tendulkar’s "Sakharam Binder", incorporating a theme based dramatic reading. We would love to play with the audience mind by using different forms as the storytelling will be engaging and challenging at the same time.

The target audience for the event is everyone who appreciates theatre and literature and everyone who like us gets inspired by a good piece of art.

We have staged "Chuski Naatak ki " once every month starting from December 2015 at various location in Bangalore and got a very positive and appreciative response from the audience for our shows which encourages us immensely.
