Bhadrakali Productions holds a special place in Marathi commercial theatre. Founded by MacchindraKambliin 1982, this theatre production house posed a definitive challenge to the established mores of Marathi theatre of the time. With the cult play Vastraharan, MacchindraKamblibrought Malwani language and culture, and working-class people onto center-stage, both literally and figuratively opening up the domain of Marathi commercial theatre to new stories, cultures, and audiences.
We are delighted to invite Prasad Kambli- multitasking hopelessly positive - innovative the current head of Bhadrakali Productions and indeed the Natya Parishad, to Mumbai local. Three decades later,5,000 shows later, Prasad continues the founding spirit of Bhadrakali Productions, seeking to once again bring new energy and direction to Marathi commercial theatre. In thisMumbaiLocal, he will share with us how and why Bhadrakali Productions produced more than fifty plays and the efforts he is taking to define new directions and encourage new voices.
Expect an evening filled with theatre daring, anecdotes, laughter, and imagination, as Prasad takes us through Vastraharan, Sangeet Dev Babhali, and other plays. For all lovers of Vastraharan, come to relive the magic of the journey. For those new to this story, come to join the magic!
