Nick Pillow is an actor, comedian and theatre teacher who hails from England (sorry about that), who has lived in Mumbai since 2012 and is now the creative director of Laughing Pillow Entertainment PLC, He has performed stand up across the world, from Mumbai to Yangon and Barcelona to London, including the prestigious Comedy Store in London's Picadilly Circus. He also works as a faculty member of the Jeff Goldberg acting studio, running their youth acting programme.
Why learn comedy with Nick?: Stand-up Comedy is as much technique as it is natural comic talent, and the techniques can be learned by anyone. Nick originally trained as an English and theatre teacher long before he became a comedian. With over twelve years' teaching experience, Nick is uniquely placed to help you understand the basics of stand up comedy, and the activities are designed to take you step-by-step through the process, including individual feedback on your set as it develops.
What will be covered: You do not need to have any material prior to the workshops, although you might want to think about some subjects you might want to cover. There are three sessions, once per week, with homework between each one. We will start with the basics of generating ideas for material, and then move on to adding punches, analyzing the work of other comedians as part of the process, before moving on to editing, rehearsing and performance techniques, before the final showcase at the end of the third session where you get to perform.
What will you need: Pen, paper, recording device (your phone probably has one). You will also be expected to bring at least two people to watch the final showcase.
Disclaimer: As a native English speaker, Nick is not fluent in Hindi and cannot give individual feedback on Hindi-language comedy. That being said, the majority of the content is relevant for any language, so the course would still be beneficial.
