Girijashankar is a classical vocalist who is the disciple of Chitravina Shri. N Narasimhan and Chitravina Shri. N Ravikiran. He has also been trained in Hindustani Classical Music for a brief period. Girijashankar’s rendition, flawless shruti alignment, laya and absorbing presentation naturally invite attention of connoisseurs. He has been asked to perform at various places like Chennai, Bangalore, Kerala, Hyderabad, New Delhi, Mangalore, Mumbai and Calcutta. Recognition and prizes were many, which came along the way. Recently, he was invited to the US to give performances at the Clevaland Tyagaraja Aradhana, Cleveland and Chinmaya Center at NJ. He has also released albums for the World Space Satellite Radio featuring Sai Bhajans. Girijashankar has confined himself to giving vocal concerts. Considering however his felicitous voice and quick grasp of essentials, his services have been drafted for dance operas by the inimitable Dr. Vyjayanthimala Bali. While her dance, of course is non-pareil, Girijashankar’s supporting music have been acclaimed by myriad aficionados. Apart from singing for dance operas, he has also composed music for accomplished dancers. Girijashankar has also sung for Dr. Bombay Jayashri Ramnath's music direction in productions such as "Meghadhootam" and "Meera - the soul divine”.
