Sampooran Singh Kalra aka Gulzaar Saab from his childhood was deeply attached to Rabindranath Tagore and Sharat Chand, who were his favorite writers.

He was not much interested in school and `Kitaab` but found his calling in literature.

His dream was to become a poet which brought him to Bombay and got associated with forum of Progressive writers.

After his initial foray into films with Bimal Roy`s Bandini and working as an assistant to Bimal Roy, Gulzar Saab`s Koshish` on directing films bore fruit as he changed the `Mausam` of Bollywood. His movies were `Parichay` to Soothing and

`Khoobsurat` classics  in the era of `Namak Haram`, `Aandhi` and `Gol Maal` all around.
