King Lear - An NTLive Broadcast

King Lear - An NTLive Broadcast

Drama | English

Considered by many to be the greatest tragedy ever written, King Lear sees two ageing fathers – one a King, one his courtier – reject the children who truly love them.  Their blindness unleashes a tornado of pitiless ambition and treachery, as family and state are plunged into a violent power struggle with bitter ends.

A Broadcast from London’s West End, see Ian McKellen’s moving portrayal of King Lear in cinemas.

Jonathan Munby directs this contemporary retelling of Shakespeare’s tender, violent, moving and shocking play.

About National Theatre Live (NTLive): National Theatre Live is an initiative by the Royal National Theatre in London, which broadcasts performances of their productions to cinemas and arts centres around the world.

Though each broadcast is filmed in front of a live audience in the theatre, cameras are carefully positioned throughout the auditorium to ensure that cinema audiences get the ‘best seat in the house’ view of each production.

Satellites allow the productions to be broadcast live to cinemas throughout the UK, as well as many European venues. Other venues including the India Habitat Centre view the broadcasts ‘as live’ according to their time zone, or at a later date.
