Shazia Mirza`s comedy is a unique blend. Her Pakistani parentage and Birmingham upbringing have resulted in a comedy, rich in it`s diversity. Although her family are Muslims, this is not central to Shazia`s comedy who prefers a more general observational approach, which also deals with her particular culture as a British Asian woman.
Shazia has a huge international reach with coverage from press, TV and radio, across the world. Shazia had a long running column on Guardian Weekend Magazine. In 2008 she won the PPA Awards for Best Columnist for her New Statesman bi monthly. She also had a long running column on VirginTrains Hotline magazine and writes regularly for newspapers as acontributor.
Here are some responses to Shahzia Mirza`s comedy:
``Clever, groundbreaking and very funny``- Evening Standard
``Mirza the Lenny Bruce of female stand-up`` - Metro
Varun Thakur is an actor (2 films out to release in 2012) , writer (Humor shows on Channel V, MTV, Bindass and NDTV good times), former TV anchor (Ex UTV Bindass VJ) and a Stand Up comedian. Being an actor from Mumbai, he struggles on a daily basis to get a job and rickshaw. He holds the Guiness world record for the maximum number of rejections from casting directors and Rickshawaala`s. Varun is also a part of a comedy troupe called Schitzengiggles and a regular performer at the Comedy Store in Mumbai. He`s also available for childrens parties as well.
Neville is a writer and currently a creative director at an Adagency who moonlights as a stand-up comic. He is also half Parsi and half Gujju, making him very confused and very angry. Often deprecating, Neville has strange views on life. His insightful wit, conversational delivery and honest angst, imbue his humour with universal appeal and the oddly poignantmoments. He also insists that he is his mother`s son.
Cary Edwards starred in ``That Four Letter Word`` and a bunch of Cary On movies...NOT. His material is edgy, observational and adult in it`s sensibilities. ``Adult`` does not always mean mature and he resents the suggestion that he might in fact be mature.
