Discover and celebrate the beauty and cultural history of Urdu

Tue 14 | 7pm | Prithvi Adda

Tamaasha's 'Urdu Readings' programme is an attempt to enter the rich world of Urdu literature.

The first season traced the journey of the modern Urdu short story. Starting with Premchand, it included stories by writers from the progressive movement, the shifts in style and ideas in the subsequent period, and contemporary writers who continue to keep the short story alive as a genre in India and Pakistan. These were dramatic readings, presented by theatre actors who shared a passion for language and theatre.

The second edition features brilliant writing in different literary forms in Urdu – letters, poetry, satire, articles, newspaper columns, and so on.

Tanz-o-Mazah: This special session at Prithvi House is dedicated to humorous and satirical tales by Mushtaq Ahmad Yusufi, Patras Bokhari and Mujtaba Hussain.

Readers: Udit Parashar, Priyanka Setia, Nachiket Devasthalli, Sapan Saran.

The programme has been conceived with the help of writer, academic, Aslam Parvez and attempts to present an alternative history of India through the work of some of the finest Urdu writers.
