Aditi Mittal, Paromita Vohra
With stand-up, comedy steps out of a larger performance frame and becomes a form in itself. Stand-up comedy as practiced in India, drawing its roots from the West, tends to get viewed as a masculine form. Even though women's biting, sarcastic, and sexual humor is very much part of our cultural context and history - from your family's incorrigible aunty to the poets of the Tamil Sangam and Dakhini traditions.
We are delighted to invite Aditi Mittal - hungry, cold, late for work and stand-up comedian - to be in conversation with Paromita Vohra at Mumbai Local. Aditi sees standup essentially as a form of theatre, which is marvelously apparent in her performances. Through their conversation, Aditi and Paromita will explore the craft of stand-up comedy and the gendered nature of humor asking if female humor is different from male humor? They will also explore the possibilities of stand-up in our context, anchored in a discussion of Aditi's work, approach and thinking and Paromita's curiosity about the form in our context and history.
Look forward to an amazing evening with two unabashedly witty and brilliantly incisive people. Mazaa aaye ga - there's no doubt about it!
For those of you who absolutely cannot make it to the venue, they will be live on Facebook for you. Join them on their page at 5 pm on Saturday, 7th July.
