Mumbai Local : The Emotion of Sound

Theatre | English

What makes you believe that what you see on the film screen is happening? Imagine this ... an image of the sea, rolling in and pulling out, but soundless. Do you feel the sea? And then the sound comes - that's the moment when the sea you are viewing on the screen becomes real for you. Sound design is an integral, essential part of the film experience - without it, the film is simply not believable. And yet, rarely do we consider the art of sound in film.

So here is our chance! We are delighted to invite Abhishek Nair - sound music soul - to Mumbai Local, to deep dive us into the world of sound designing for film. He will introduce us to the various methods of creating sound - from dubbing to sync sound to foley artists. He will also lead us into the fascinating sensory thinking behind keeping sound 'human', believable, in the context of the film - how does sound support the story, create the context, highlight what is needed, bring out character and mood? What is the emotion of sound?

Look forward to an evening of entry into a world we rarely get access to - the wonderful, creative world of the sound designer, who plays with sounds and silence to make every moment come alive. We have a feeling we are going to come out of this session by listening to the world around us very differently!

Curated by Bishakha Datta.
