Multi Dance Style Presentation by Kanak Rele & Group

Bharatanatyam by V.P. Dhananjayan & Shanta Dhananjayan

Sunday, 21st – 6.00 pm 


Kanak Rele is a world-renowned classical dance exponent as well as a scholar of Indian culture. A renowned performer, educationist, research scholar and, above all, a guru par excellence, Rele has today become a legend in her own lifetime. The President of India has described her as ‘a pioneering dance educationist and topmost Mohiniattam exponent’. She has received several awards that include the Padma Bhushan (2013), Padma Shri (1990), Sangeet Natak Akademi Ratna Award, Kalidas Samman (2006) for her contribution to Mohiniattam and a lifetime of achievement. The dancing duo, V. P. Dhananjayan & Shanta Dhananjayan, have carved a unique place in the field of Bharatanatyam. Both are trained and distinguished in the Kalakshetra Baani. They exhibit high reverence for traditionalism in their art and have become role models for the younger generation. They have received several awards including the Padma Bhushan and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award. 



Bharatanatyam by Sonal Mansingh & Mohiniattam by Mandakini Trivedi

Sonal Mansingh’s dancing career started in 1962 when she founded the Centre for Indian Classical Dances (CICD) in New Delhi. Over the years, dance has taken her all over the world and brought her many awards, including the Padma Bhushan in 1992, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1987 and the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second highest civilian award, in 2003; making her the second female dancer in India to receive such an honour after Balasaraswati. Mandakini Trivedi trained in Mohiniattam under Kanak Rele at the Nalanda Nritya Maha Vidyalaya, and later, under the guidance of Kalyanikuti Amma, Kalamandalam Satyabhama and Kalamandalam Leelamma. An outstanding exponent of Mohiniattam, she has performed extensively at prestigious dance festivals within the country and abroad. She has received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for her contribution to Mohiniattam.


Bharatanatyam by Priyadarshini Govind & Kathakali by Sadanam Balakrishnan

Saturday, 27th – 6.30 pm


A Bharatanatyam artiste of exceptional ability, Priyadarsini Govind has perfected a dance style marked by fluid movement and a sharp sense of rhythm. Among other appearances, she has performed at dance festivals around the world in countries like France, Tunisia, Britain and, Japan. Govind has received several honors for her work including the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for her contribution to Bharatanatyam. Sadanam Balakrishnan was trained by renowned gurus Ramunni Nair and K. Kumaran Nair. He has specialized in the Kalluvazhi style, besides studying other styles of Kathakali. Balakrishnan has excelled both in performance and teaching of Kathakali. He has performed extensively traveling to over 25 countries, trained and guided several artistes, scripted and directed several new plays. He has received the Parishad Samman of Sahitya Kala Parishad, Delhi and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to Kathakali.

  • No food or beverage is permitted in the auditorium.
  • The NCPA does not take responsibility for the loss or theft of any personal belongings or any injury that the ticket holder may incur at the event.
  • The event is subject to change and also governed by force majeure conditions.
  • The starting time of the event for which the ticket was bought may change without any prior intimation.
  • As per the discretion of the ncpa management, a late entry for western classical concerts will only be permitted in breaks between movements or pieces as indicated by NCPA users.
  • The ticket may be bought from an authorized point of sale.
  • The consumption of alcohol and other banned substances is strictly prohibited.
  • All pagers and cell phones must be switched off inside the venue once the performance commences.
  • Smoking is strictly prohibited.
  • In case of event cancellation, only the ticket price may be refunded. The service charge or any other charges paid for and included in the ticket sale, such as a convenience charge or delivery charge will not be refunded.
  • Parking facilities are available at owner`s own risk.
  • No photography through mobile phone is permitted.
