Ranjana Gauhar is a renowned Odissi dancer, and choreographer. Gauhar has been honoured with the prestigious Padma Shri Award in 2003 for her longstanding services in the field of Odissi. She is also the recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award from the President of India (2007), Senior Fellowship for her research in the temple tradition of Odissi dance by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, the Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award and Mahari Award in 2007 and many other accolades. Sharada Ganesan, the mother of Nandini Ganesan, is a graduate in Fine Arts (Dance) from the Nalanda Nritya Kala Mahavidyalaya under Dr. Kanak Rele. Also trained in Odissi under Shankar Behera and Padma Bhushan Kelucharan Mohapatra, she has also been fortunate to learn Kuchipudi under C. R. Acharya and Vempati Chinna Satyam. Ganesan’s talent and experience also extend to the fields of Carnatic music and tabla. Today, she is known as one of the first lady nattuvanaars in the city of Mumbai. As a teacher, she is known for her precision and perfection in training her students with a good balance of discipline. She looks after the activities in the centre of Kalasadan. Dedicated to the teaching of Bharatanatyam for the last four decades, she is known for her aesthetic and detailed choreography of dance ballets for the institution.
