Welcome to Pilikula, Mangaluru!!!
Mangaluru, lying below Western Ghats and near the Arabian Sea along Coastal Karnataka, is well known as an educational hub of the country with cent percent literacy. The city is well connected to major parts of the country by air, rail and road. It is a land of temples and rivers and is becoming popular as a tourist center. A large number of tourists throng this coastal area to visit the famous temples and to witness the beauty of the majestic Arabian Sea with vast sandy and spectacular rocky beaches. It is a city of multi-culture and languages. Pilikula, at a distance of about 18 km from Mangaluru, is in an area of 356 acres in the outskirts of the city. It was a barren habitat threatened by excessive quarrying and degradation until 1996, which has now become an integrated unique ecological and science park. Currently, Pilikula is the only center in India, which has a science park associated with live biological components, including rare species of animals living in the Western Ghats to serve as a good educational and resource center for learners for enriching their knowledge at a one-stop destination. Major components like Regional Science Centre, Hybrid Planetarium, Biological Park (Zoo), Snake Park, Arboretum (Botanical Garden), Medicinal Garden, Heritage Village, Artisans Village, Guttu Mane, Boating Centre& Lake Garden, Golf Course, Jungle Lodges and Manasa Water Park and many other attractions are contributing Pilikula to emerge as one of the important destinations to promote “Science through Tourism and Tourism through Science”. Frequented by about 10 lakhs visitors per annum, this eco-tourism center is popular for its novel concept in the Asian region to explore, experience and enjoy the scenic beauty of this unique ecosystem.

About the Conference and Full Dome Festival
Planetarium technology is showing accelerated exponential growth in revolutionizing educational outreach. Its future trends will no doubt redefine, reshape and transform the way Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) is brought to the general public in the coming years. Swami Vivekananda Planetarium at Pilikula is organizing the First Pilikula International Full-Dome Film Festival and Planetarium Conference, which will be held during November 6-8, 2019 at Pilikula. This flagship event is organized by the Pilikula Regional Science Centre Society and Karnataka Science and Technology Promotion Society (KSTePS), Department of Information Technology, Biotechnology and Science & Technology,
Government of Karnataka, in association with M/s. Infovision Technologies, Mumbai and Evans & Sutherland, USA. The focal theme for the Conference is aptly chosen as “Trends in Planetarium Technology”. The event spectrum includes conference sessions for targeted groups of academicians and planetarium professionals as well as full- dome shows (multiple shows) for the general public and students. In addition, several outreach activities for the student community of different age groups are also being organized. The keynote talks and distinguished presentations will be made by nationally and internationally acclaimed speakers in the conference. A large number of producers, both national and international repute, will be participating in the full-dome festival. The entry for the conference sessions is for planetarium professionals, science centre curators and astronomy practitioners, while the entry for full dome festival is for the general public and is based on online registration. Please block your calendar at the earliest as there will be a big demand for the entry to the full dome festival. It will be an open platform, providing an opportunity for the general public to witness the planetarium shows on any one of the three days through prior online registration.
