Red Bull Music Presents Disco Puppet Album Launch Tour, ‘Aranyer Din Ratri’, presented in a stream of consciousness format where tracks flow into one other building a linear narrative one of search and self-discovery. The album will be a theatrical performance with sets, visuals, light design, and movement.
The tracks flow into one another, weaving a narrative of search, discovery, and acceptance. Disco Puppet’s music remains sonically adventurous, contrasting assiduously crafted moments of tenderness with outright abrasion. There are playful moments too, courtesy his battered Casio SA47. The toy keyboard is accompanied by samples, tape machine artifacts, and saturated 808s - building on Shoumik’s familiar yet ever-evolving sound palette.
Aranye Din Ratri (Disco Puppet’s third full length) gets its name from a 1970 Satyajit Ray film. Shoumik first saw the film in 2016, after which he began to take an active interest in Ray’s works. These movies became a window into understanding his own personal history and art. He began to understand his attraction to seemingly insignificant details of daily life, the way people interact and the longing for human contact. Although his work always explored these themes, this was the first time he became aware of it.
