The day was May 5th, 1991. The boy who used to sit by the Karjouri and listen to the story of the river, gave his first solo performance at Shishir Moncho with just a guitar in hand. The following day marked the beginning of a new chapter in the history of music. Bengali music was reborn with the advent of ‘Sumon er gaan’.
Earlier the question was raised – would there be no more progress in Bengali song or music? The answer came in the form of 12 songs – the album “Tomake Chai” in 1992. For the first time, Bengalis realized that it is possible to create an album with only a keyboard and guitar in hand. Bengali music found a new language and melody, and with these innovations attained a newfound maturity. And so, the world came to know of a post-Tagore era of Bengali music – Kabir Suman.
On December 15th, 2019, with an invitation from the organization Twist your Show, Kabir Suman will come to Nazrul Moncho.
No, If you think you will experience a fantastic evening, or he will bring a repertoire of his best songs, or it will be an evening to remember, then you are mistaken. All that will remain is feeling and realization.
We have just one request for the audience. At the end, we will hold the hands of our loved ones and sing “Kabir Sumon tumi ki shuncho?
'' Amra tomakei chai, sesh porjonto tomakei chai.”
